I am starting a bait shop and don't have alot to put into a minnow system. Is there anyway to set up a tank that will keep them alive for about 2 to 3 weeks?
Is there anyway to keep it cool enough without get a water cooler for them. The bath tub thing is what I was thinking with an outside filter and pump.
You can build your own fairly cheap, but make it nice. I would layer the inside with fiberglass and install a pump to circulate the water and also get you a heater core from any junk car and fix up with a compressor from an old refrigerator and fix it to rotate freon and keep your water cold. Any Aircondtion man can hook that up for you. I built one and I tell ya the secret to keeping your minnows alive is Oygen and tempreatuire must stay cold. And feed them fish food.
Alot of dealers lose alot of fish becasue they don't have enough Oxygen in the water and the Temperature gets too warm.
I have my box loaded once a month and I hardly ,lose any minnows at all. Infact they grow.

So, I caught this minnow at a pound and brought it home, but my mom said I can't keep it and that she won't support any of it's needs. What can I feed it instead of fish food? It has to be something around the kitchen, you know bread, crackers, veggies, ect.
It will need protein.
But sliced oranges will work. Some like veggies like a small peice of romain lettuce. Eventually it will need protein though, so at some point you'll have to break down and get some fish food. You can dig up some worms or catch a cricket or two and crush it up.
I was wondering what to feed this fish at such a young age? I know what to feed it when it gets bigger but now at a minnow size. Will it eat tropical fish flakes or what? And does anyone have any other tips on raising a bass?
The only thing I fed mine were gold fish. Mine started off about 1 1/2 inches long. Then it grew rapidly, especially after eating goldfish as apposed to flaky foods. I had 4 altogether. They are very territorial and kill each other. Leaving me with one! They can eat a goldfish way bigger than themselves, so don't worry about the size you buy. Only buy 1 or 2 goldfish to put in the tank at a time.
Hi! I have just set up a 35l cold water fish tank, and was wondering how many wcmm, could live happily in it. Also is there any other species I could keep with them, I have read not to keep gold fish with them, as they might eat the minnow, but was wondering if there was anything else. Thanks :-)
You can keep quite a few White clouds in a small tank as long as it is well filtered and you keep up the water changes. But I suggest you get about 6 (so it's likely you will have pair). Put plenty of weed in tank and they will breed. You will probably end up with 20 or 30 in there and have to give some away.
You can keep them with other small tropical fish if you use a heater. Guppies, cory cats, danios will all be fine at cooler tropical temps (around 22C) and thats fine for WCMM too.
WCMM can live and breed with no heater and can handle water temps down to about 5C for short times. You can keep them outside as long as their container doesn't ice up. In an aquarium no heater is needed, although they are fine at cooler tropical temps.

Going fishing in a couple of days and just wondering what the lifespan is on crappie minnows. We'll be fishing in an area that takes about an hour to get there and how long can I expect the minnows to live in a minnow bucket? I figure I'll go to my local bait shop then head directly out to the fishing area so as to save time. I can't imagine them dying within a few hours but I just want somebody else's input on the matter.
hey man, they should last for a good long while in the bucket as long as you dont let them get really hot. as the oxygen and all goes see if your local bait and tackle shop has some oxygen and food tablets. it is just a small tablet that you drop in the water. (the reason that most water is blue when you buy minnows) it will keep the minnows alive for a few days. like i said as long as you dont let them get too hot. hope that helps you out a bit good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the experience
i just picked up a minnow trap and i dont know how to set it or anything. Any help?
When you get the trap, I attach 20 to 40 feet of line to the clip that holds the traps together. For Baiting you will need to purchase 3 things. A can of soft cat food, Cheese cloth, small wire. Make a 6" square of the cloth and put a heap of the food in the middle, Wrap it all up to make a ball and tie it down shut. You then tie the bait to the rig to secure it. It is ready top be tossed out there, and ready to soak. Fine s spot with minnow action and give a toss, and tie er down. Wait for 24 to 36 hours to see what you caught and unload the fish, and repeat the process. Good;luck
Over the weekend, Paul Krugman attempted to explain away Sonia Sotomayor's "wise Latina" statement by claiming that it was a joke. Krugman said that the line was delivered during a speech in which Sotomayor "was trying to be entertaining."
Meanwhile, the Democrats are serving up a different spin. Echoing President Obama, Senator Leahy said today that what Sotomayor meant is that people have different backgrounds but "there is only one law," and "ultimately and completely" she would follow the law.
Krugman's spin is slightly more plausible than that of Obama and Leahy: the latter are saying, in effect, that night means day. Krugman effectively is saying, without any basis, that Sotomayor was joking when she said it was night during the day time.
Sotomayor's speech was an attempt to deal with a serious question, one of the most serious in jurisprudence -- whether judges can and should "transcend their personal sympathies and prejudices and aspire to achieve a greater degree of fairness and integrity based on the reason of law." This was not an attempt to entertain. To be sure, Sotomayor made a few light comments early in the speech. But this is standard fare; for example, Presidents Reagan and Obama both did this in their commencement addresses at Notre Dame. But no one would claim that the statements they made when they got to the subject at hand -- patriotism in Reagan's case and abortion in Obama's -- were less than entirely serious.
