How do I feed my ghost shrimp without letting the betta hog everything?
Shrimp Boat

I have a betta, five ghost shrimp, and one of those little fish that sucks the side of the tank in my aquarium. Do we need to feed the fish that sucks the side of the tank and the shrimp? I read that you can feed the shrimp fish food, but whatever we put in the tank gets eaten by the betta right away. We don't want to put too much food in and overfeed the betta, but we don't want the shrimp to starve. What should we do?

I feed my shrimp catfish wafers from Hikari. They instantly sink to the bottom and if you drop them right, while distracting the betta, you can aim to let the wafer fall behind an ornament where the shrimp can easily get at it.

Truth be told, I watched my shrimp practically slap my betta in the face before snagging a wafer and scurrying off with it.

As for the algae eater you can feed him lettuce, or zucchini slices secured to the side with a veggie clip.

what are some ways to eat shrimp?
S&WW

I've tried to barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. I've made shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried, pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, and shrimp sandwich. But what other ways of cooking it are there?

Shrimp Quesadillas are my family's favorite. A bit high in fat, though.

Start by making a quick Shrimp Scampi:

1 1/2 pounds large shrimp (about 16 to 24)
1/3 cup butter
4 tablespoons minced garlic
2 tbs lemon juice.

Melt butter and add shrimp, garlic and juice. Cook about 2 minutes until shrimp are pink. Set shrimp aside and keep warm.

Then wipe out your skillet, spray with Cooking Spray.

Layer shrimp, your choice of cheese and any other ingredients you wish (onions, salsa) between two tortillas and pan-grill until cheese is melted and both sides are crispy.

YUMMY!!!

How to reduce a strong shrimp taste?
Fresh Local Shrimp

I am making a chicken and shrimp penne dish that calls for "large shrimp". I don't have access to fresh shrimp, only frozen. Some of the frozen shrimp has a very strong taste. Is there something you can soak the shrimp in that will cut this taste down?

Don't eat any seafood that has a strong smell or taste. It's going off.

how can I keep shrimp from getting tough?

I made some peel and eat style shrimp to munch on yesterday for the fourth. I bought some Zatarans shrimp and crab boil and followed the instructions for shrimp. I was supposed to boil for one minute then kill the heat and let it sit for about 20. I didn't let it sit because the test shrimp I took out was already tough after about 5 minutes. Can I get some suggestions as to how to avoid them getting tough for next time? They were a huge hit, and I'm going to make them again.

high heat less time. shrimp only takes about 1-2 minutes to cook. go to www.foodnetwork.com for more tips.

Are ecospheres bad for the shrimp? How long does it take for a shrimp to mature?

I have an ecosphere and I've become attached to my shrimp, but there is a controversy over whether the shrimp are slowly dying or not. Just wondering if that's true...

Also, I think my shrimp had babies, but they're pretty darn tiny, how long does it take for them to grow up?

Those ecospheres use a shrimp called Halocaridina Rubra. They use these shrimp because they can live through pretty much anything, including the torturous conditions of an ecosphere. The shrimp will actually shrink over time as its only source of food is its own exoskeleton. Under the right conditions these shrimp will live for 20 years and grow to about 1.5cm, but in the sphere they usually only last a couple years.

I guess there is a chance the shrimp you have was berried before it was sealed off in the sphere. If so the baby shrimp will go through a larval planktonic stage before they metamorphose into tiny shrimp. If they do make it to this stage I doubt they would last long, seeing how their only source of food is their own skin. I wouldn't put it past the mother to cannibalize her young, given the conditions.

Sorry this is such a doom and gloom answer.

EASTER WEEK: SHRIMP 'N' GRITS Belleville News Democrat

To make the grits: Combine 4 cups of water, the milk, and salt in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil and slowly whisk in the grits. Reduce the heat to medium-low.

Cover the saucepan and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes, or until thickened. Stir in the cheddar cheese. Cover and keep warm over a low heat.

To make the shrimp: Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the flour and cook, stirring, until the mixture is dark and golden, about 5 minutes. Add the bell peppers, onions, jalapenos, garlic, 1/2 teaspoon of the salt, and pepper. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.

Slowly whisk in the cream. Once the cream is fully incorporated, slowly whisk in the tomatoes and 2/3cup of water. Stir in the shrimp and cook, stirring occasionally, until the shrimp are just opaque, about 5 minutes.

Season the shrimp with the remaining 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, and Tabasco. Serve the shrimp over the grits and garnish with the Parmesan cheese and parsley.
