Abu Garcia Baitcast Reel

Any tips on casting an Abu Garcia baitcast reel?

I've been practicing and getting a little better I've played with the brake system a bit. I'm getting less backlashes with the brake as high as it goes but I'm not casting very far at all and I always seem to throw my bait to the left like a big hook to the left. I think I have a flip switch thing is what it is called on the reel if I turn it on and press the thumb button and let it go the spool stops right away and if I turn it off I press the thumb bar down and it stays put. I havn't figured out the best way to cast yet with that option it's easier to stop the bait before it hits the water with that option ON. I'd a thought I'd be casting better with it by now even though I've only practiced 3 or 4 times how long does it usually take to be as good with a baitcast reel as I was with a regular one?

use 10-14lb line and heavy or heavier lures and that switch is called a flippin switch turn it of now adjust your clutch to where the spool stops spinning when it hits the water practice a little more and you shud get it

How to install fishing line to my Abu Garcia 2005LP baitcast reel?

I may have a bad reel as soon as I put any tension on the line the spool won't spin. I tied the line on but I can't reel in the line at all. I have no idea what's wrong with it maybe I'm doing it wrong anyone out there that has a baitcast reel have problems like this? I'd appreciate the help.

this happens to me too.

just take a dab of super glue and stick the line to the back of the spool. regular glue works too.

i just use a regular clinch knot, with bass fishing you don't really have to worry about a bass ripping all your line off because they aren't a running fish, so you dont need any special knots.

Abu Garcia Baitcast Reel. Is This "Abnormal" For A Fishermen?

I Reel With My Left Hand. Does Anybody Else?

10 Points best Answer...

Well, I reel with my left hand on my spinning reel, but with my right hand on my baitcaster.

I sometimes wish I had gotten a left handed baitcaster though, because I cast with my right, and then wind up having to switch hands to reel. It would be easier if I could just cast with the right hand and reel with the left, but I've gotten used to it, so if I did it a different way now it would probably throw me off...lol.

Abu Garcia Black Max Baitcast Reel, I need help.?

Can you take the housing apart by only removing the three screws and the thumb screw on the handle side, or do I have to take everything apart? I think I may have some line stuck in between the spool and housing. I am not very familiar with baitcast reels. I dont want to mess with any of the internal mechanisms, just want to be able to take out the spool and check for any line stuck there. Please Help!!

The Thumb screw he is talking about is the one on top, centered on the right hand plate (if it is a right handed reel) just above the drag star and a little in front of the spool.
Go here and click on the Black Max Sprint 90-0 link and you can down load a PDF file.....you want to loosen part # 20378. It will not back all the way out.....then you turn the left side of the reel (if a right handed reel) down and forward. That plate and the spool will come out. Reverse the process to reassemble.

The model # may not match yours exactly but all Abu Garcia low profile bait casters are basically put together the same.

Is there a minimum weight for a lure when using a baitcast reel?

I have an ABU GARCIA 2005 LP baitcast reel and I've been practicing with it and it seems to me that a heavier lure is much, much easier to cast. I had a pretty light lure on to begin with and I'd get a lot of backlashes and I couldn't cast very accurately I played with the brake and everything. I threw a sinker on the line and then everything worked a lot better it would cast without backlashing and I was able to cast way more accuratetly. So I was just wondering if there is such a thing as a minimum weight lure to use or if anyone else expierienced that. Thanks in advance in you answer

not realy a minium weight, the more you use it and get use to the amount of energy it takes to throw then the lighter the lure can become. practice a lot and you can master it, but the smallest i can throw on there is the small rapala. anything less than that and i use a spinning reel

Outdoors: Giant bass caught by Chico angler Enterprise-Record

A very large striped bass was caught recently on the Sacramento River near Colusa by veteran Chico angler Andy Joiner. "I was fishing near Colusa, and hadn't caught a thing all day due to the high muddy water," related Joiner. "Around evening time I pulled up on a gravel bar to have dinner, and decided to toss out my line that still had some chewed-up pile worms on the hook. I was using a four-ounce sliding sinker, 3/0 hook, and 20-pound test mono on an Abu-Garcia 6500 baitcasting reel.

"Suddenly I had a huge fish hooked, and I thought it was a sturgeon. We chased it downriver, and were very lucky to get it out of a couple of snags. I finally waded into knee-deep water to measure and release her. She was 47.5 inches long, and 30 inches around, by far my personal best-ever striped bass."

Note: Joiner's big striper was admirably released without weighing, but the length-girth measurements can be applied to several different well-known striped bass weight calculation formulas and charts.
