Fishing Sea

I am looking for a freshwater spinning reel that has a high gear ratio and trigger for bail operation. I want to replace my shimano FX series(they are a workhorse) but can not seem to find anymore of them.
I haven't seen many models on BPS or cabela's....

I have switched over to the Shimano Stradic MgFA and have found it near flawless and very good quality....no complaints so far. For the money it is hard to beat.

Nowadays, it's the size and line capacity (and the size of the drag washers). But back when I was a kid, a buddy of mine showed up to fish off the pier with a freshwater reel, while I had my Penn spinning reel of the same size. I used my reel for years -- his was good for that one trip -- it rusted!

But nowadays, I think all reasonable reels are corrosion-resistant enough to use in the salt.

Will a freshwater spinning reel mess up if used in saltwater? What is the difference between saltwater and freshwater reels? Do saltwater reels have something freshwater reels don't?

no difference just wash them off when your done and oil them

I have been trying to look it up online but a lot of descriptions confuse me. Also what pound test line would you recommend I use, I plan to fish in freshwater lakes and ponds.

all you need to do is thread the line through the eyes of the rod, flip the "bale" (the wire wire thing on the reel) and tie a uni knot on the spool,

than get a spool of 14, to10 pound test Sufix Siege (when your reeling the line in, make sure the label of the spool is face up) it's great line for beginners, it's coronation and abrasion resistant and has very little amount of memory. after you tie the knot on spool, than you take a sock, or old rag and very very tightly pinch the line between you fingers with one hand and with the other reel in the line making sure you get the line on tight when it looks like the right amount reel about 5 more cranks, than you snip the line with some clippers and squeeze the line if it's squishy than you need to take the line off to the knot and start over.

I need a spinning combo that is for saltwater fishing. I'm fishing off piers. I need the combo to hold 15-25lb line. If you could provide a link it would be great. Thanks. Also can you use saltwater poles in freshwater?

Buy an ugly-stik and a penn reel. These two items you can use anywhere.

ok so i want to go to the bass pro shop and buy my husband a good freshwater spin reel for chrismas (i only have $100.00 bucks) but i know nothing about reels so can you please tell me what would be good one for that price?

I was going to tell you the Pflueger President is probably the best you can get for the money. Bassmaster is right on in showing you this reel. I've met a few tournament anglers that use them. My brother owns one, and it is nice. I would never go spend hundreds of dollars on a Shimano reel when this reel is just as good. This reel cannot be beat, you get a whole lot more than what you pay for!
