Colorado fishing conditions are improving Pueblo Chieftain
Fishing for warm-water species is starting to pick up all over the
state. Lake Henry and Lake Meredith, near Ordway, are offering good
to excellent fishing action for crappie, wipers and bullhead
catfish, according to the DOW. Many large and smallmouth bass,
walleye and channel catfish are being caught at reservoirs in the
Denver Metro area as well.Waters such as Aurora Reservoir, Berkeley
Lake, Cherry Creek Reservoir and Jim Baker Reservoir are all
fishing very well.
Following is the DOW report for Southeastern Colorado. It will be
published on Thursdays in the summer as space permits:
Southeast Colorado
Adobe Creek Reservoir (Blue Lake)—Some crappie, catfish, white
bass, and the occasional saugeye/walleye are being caught. Blue
Lake has always been a popular catfish destination, and plenty of
large channel and blue cats inhabit this lake. The upper boat ramps
are usable. The island is now closed due to endangered species
nesting.
Antero Reservoir—Catchable sized trout are being caught from boats
using Flatfish lures in the late afternoon and early evening. NOTE:
Bank fishermen that are fishing near boat ramps, docks or jetties
should reel in their lines when boats are trying to load and
unload, please extend common courtesy to fellow anglers. Fly
fisherman should be conscious of their back-cast when fishing the
jetty, so as not to endanger anglers who may be fishing behind
them. The North entrance road may be closed temporarily to allow
Denver water to do road repairs due to uncharacteristic wet
conditions.
