Fishing Rods?
Penfishingrods.com

Hi,
I'm looking to start fishing as soon as the weather gets good (may take a while!). I've done minimal amounts of fishing in the past, but I'm planning on getting into more seriously - Possibly two / three times a month minimum.

Where do I start? What rod should I get (I plan on going to the pools near to where I live - carp, pike, chub etc)? What's the most I should be looking to spend?

Well, in all honesty you said the key words, carp and pike. I'm not familiar with pike, but I'm pretty sure they will put up a good fight. However, Carp do put up a pretty hard fight from my experience. I would start out with Shimano or Quantam Spinning reel that could spool 12 to 14 pound mono with no problems and I would put that reel on a 6'6" Skakespeare ugly stick in the medium heavy category. I would got with the graphite ugly stick if the regular ugly stick feels too heavy for you. Hold it first before you buy and make sure if feels comfortable. Last, go fishing and have fun. Tight lines to you.

Are fishing rods measured from the tip to the top or bottom of the handle?
(Untitled)

I'm ordering some fishing rods online. Does length listed include the handle or is that only for the exposed part of the rod blank? For example, there are a bunch of rods all listed at 6'6" but there are five different handle designs, all different lengths. Is 6'6" the overall length or just the length of the rod forward of the grips?

When it comes to fishing rods its the entire length
including the handle reel seat etc so when it says 6"6 its from butt to tip

How do I find people to buy fishing rods and reels?
Fishing Trip

I am looking to sell fishing rods and reels. There is almost every name brand that's made. Plus rods of varies types.

The guy across the road from me sells them from his house. He must put an ad in the local paper, or maybe fishing club newsletters. You'll get a better price than you will on ebay.

How many fish do I need, to play a game of fishing?what is the cheapest way of getting fishing rods?
mattlures bluegill swimbaits

On wednesday my school is holding a carnival but instead of getting people to set up stalls, we must set up our own stalls, so we have to make games and entertain the people in the district with our games. In the end the school makes the money and we the people who do the stuff won't get even a penny. We have to buy prizes and all that stuff. I am going to play fishing, not real fish, I want to find the cheapest way to get the fish. I am making the fish myself but I wonder how many I must make, I'm making them with paper and covering them with plastic but what about the fishing rods, I'm not that rich to go buy 40 fishing rods while the cheapest is like $23 and I mean I don't get any money back. Should I go collect sticks and just tie a string onto the stick?then I just need to add a hook but that will take forever I've only got today and tomorrow, where will I get the sticks from and how many fish must I make?I also have to buy prizes, what prizes are the cheapest?Candy? pls help!Thks

2 ways to go
fish, brightly colored cardboard with paper clips on them
stick, string, hook with magnet on it
put numbers on the fish, or use colors, red = 2 points green= 3 points gold (orange) = 5 points. improve the prizes based on the points.
for prizes, best thing is to order from Oriental trading company, get a gross of erasers, boxes of pencils that you can decorate with glitter, a couple of dozen faux beanie babies for the big buck prizes.
Another fun way
cardboard fish, cover with contact paper, seal the edges. get your friends to help decorate the fish with glitter etc.
paper clips on fish, stick with string and magnet
get a little kids wading pool, add water, add fish
kids love water play, they do not much care about the prizes.have lots of fun!!!

whats the difference between different types of fishing rods?

i am thinking of taking up fishing again which i havnt done for years. i thought there was fly and course rods and that was it. but having a wee look around i see carp rods & reels, course rods & reels, sea rods &reels etc. is there much difference? can you use a course or carp rod & reel in the sea?

coarse fishing is normally done at sea, typical marketing mate, when I was a kid you had, fly, spin and sea. nowadays, they money men make you have a rod for every single style. Keep it simple, a coarse rod for sea, a spinner for rivers and light sea and shore, and a fly rod for rivers and lochs.

Selecting the right fishing rod is an important decision - Danbury News Times

Choosing the right fishing rod is just like selecting the proper golf club to make a shot. You do not see Tiger Woods playing golf with just one club. He has a bag containing 14 different clubs. Each of these clubs helps him make a particular type of shot. The same is true with fishing; each type of lure requires a particular type of rod.

Having the correct rod will help make you a better angler. Most fishermen are aware that the fishing rod is one of the most important tools for catching fish. Deciding what rod to buy is harder than ever. There are more choices than ever before when it comes to fishing rods. Graphite, fiberglass, fast or slow, heavy, medium/heavy, medium, medium/light or light actions all lead to the confusion of choosing the proper rod.

Most rods are made from graphite or fiberglass. Fishing rods come in varying strengths and will be measured in terms of modulus. Modulus refers to the density of the weave of the material from which the rod blank is fashioned. Graphite rods generally come with a modulus between 33 million and 60 million. The higher the modulus, the stiffer the rod will be. The higher modulus rods will also be lighter, faster, and more sensitive. As a trade-off, however, high modulus rods are more brittle than lower modulus fishing rods. The fiberglass or graphite is woven into sheet-like pieces of material and then shaped into a rod blank. Most rod blanks are engineered for a particular action.

Important Guide About Fishing Rods

Modern fishing rods have incorporated modern features that have not been a part of old fashioned cane poles Modern fishing rods are equipped with reels which aid in pulling in of fish caught in its bait. A much-sophisticated feature is the new spinning rod with which the shaft of the rod except the handle is capable of moving on it's axis to allow flexibility with fish that are caught with snare bait causing it to struggle. Not unlike the old cane poles the rod today has a thick handle and gets thinner at the top

This very basic design [allows handling stability] and flexible movement for the whole length of the shaft. In most cases, a rod will measure anywhere from two to five meters (2 to 5 m) and have various ranges in capability to handle strain in fishing activity. The length is important in the pole's capability with being able to handle the force that the fish put on to the pole and makes the determination which the caliber of performance of the rod.

Cane poles are of the smaller and less sophisticated gadgets in fishing. Normally, it is constructed with bamboo or a very flexible wood with a basic fly line attached to it. Very unlike the other modern rods cane poles do not usually contain reels or have a similar setup to be used for reeling in fish captured on your hook. This action is called angling

A popular type of rod now is called a spinning rod and can be used either for heavyweight or lightweight fish although they were proven best for trout, walleye and bass fish. Their measurements differ from 5 to 7 feet (1.5 to 2.5 m). For the most part, spinning poles are used in bass competitions because of their flexibility and high stress tolerance. They accommodate bigger and better lines and stabilize them to avoid tangling as the line uncoils.

Jigging rods are good for heavy lures and baits when you get to around 180 to 200 feet below the surface. They are made of fine, heavy materials that explain their weight. Use of jigging rods is very much due on the alternating currents during the fishing activity. Many oceans will have an unpredictable current and that's why the bait and fly lines must be kept in their proper place. Fishing lures can also be disturbed and cause confusion among fish if lines fail to be long or heavy enough to hold out against and handle water currents under the sea. Such rods are good for catching fish that are found to be living at the bottom of the ocean, and prime examples of these are cod and halibut.
