Here is a good reel that works well for a travel rod made by Pflueger. Other companies have similar models as well. It is neither a spinning reel, baitcaster or fly reel, rather a closed-face spinning reel called an underspin reel.

IRWINDALE, California — Eleven years ago to this exact date Irwindale Speedway opened with a night of USAC open-wheel competition in front of a sell-out crowd of 6,500+. The track, now known as Toyota Speedway @ Irwindale, began season 12 of NASCAR series point racing Saturday with seven classes and 101 racing vehicles in action. After a mid-80s afternoon, about 5,000 spectators attended the first of 30 weekly races with a 100-lap NASCAR AC Delco Super Late Model race on the progressively banked half-mile the featured attraction. Nick Joanides , a 17-time main event winner at Irwindale last year and 2009 double track champion in the SLM and Auto Club Late Model series, started ninth and became the fifth race leader on lap 84. He won the 100-lap, 49 minute contest that had one red flag and six yellows. It was the 35th feature triumph at the track for the personable 39-year old Woodland Hills resident. He now ranks fifth among all-time feature winners at the track.

Two of your most useful tools for finding places like this, are your legs. Many times, even in places frequented by crowds of people, you can find a little corner of the outdoors for yourself if you’re willing to put a little time in on foot. Generally speaking, the farther you’re willing to walk, the more alone you’ll be.
Lots of elbow room.
Hiking in to a remote lake or section of stream can have many more rewards than just catching fish. Obviously, the less fishing pressure any body of water gets, the better the fishing should be. But hiking to some back-country places offers great exercise, a good opportunity to view some wildlife, and almost always picturesque views of nature at its finest.
Studying a map of the area you visit can reveal some hidden secrets. There was no trail to this small alpine lake.
This type of fishing can be as simple or as complicated as you’d like to make it. I figure I’m about in the middle of the road. I will be using a simple rod and reel set-up but will be taking a pretty good assortment of flies. As far as my fishing gear goes, I think I came in at less than $100 for the whole outfit.
