I am holidaying in Looe in July/August this year and don't want to annoy the family by having them avoid my fishing rod (6 foot split down in it's bag) while driving for hours.
Can anyone reccomend a reasonably priced telescopic rod/reel combo for Mackerel from pier and or beach?
Pay attention: don't waste your money, telescopic rods blow.
Get an ugly stick and let them try to break it.... then put a (graphite) or non aluminum spool spinning reel on it and pack the reel in your case and put the rod into a PVC pipe tube with a screw on lid on one side and an affixed cap on the other end. make a couple of shoestring hangers for the hanger goodies in the cars roof to suspend your rod up and into the ceiling of the car.

I have just rented a new flat with a bathroom that has no shower curtain. As I am not allowed to drill holes into the wall, I am looking for a no-drill solution. Unfortunately, all the telescopic curtain rods I found are shorter than 2.5 metres.
Would you be able to help? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you for reading my question.
You can get suction cups with a lever on them to get very good suction. Just get 2 of these and suspend a string between the 2 until you come up with something better. Or how about a curtain rail. Or how about a length of copper pipe with cups on the end that you can screw out to jam the tubing in place.
The top segment of my telescopic rod is fammed and wont retract back into the lower part, i've tried puttin vaseline on it, oil etc, anyone know a solution to unstick it??
Well it snapped with the hot cold treatment so I'll go with the method i didnt try
its damp and air has got stuck between water and caused a suction, the way i always sort it with mine is to give the joint a rub with a towel and twist both ends close to the joint in separate directions. 2 people will help greatly and 100% success

Yes, if the rod is a spincast rod. If it has a "trigger" for your index finger where the reel seat is, then your rod is a spincast rod. Good luck.
It should state the recommended weight range right on the rod's label. An educated guess would be 4# to 10# line.
In preparation for using MLive to replace the FJ 4 days a week, I have been spending a lot more time on the site.
The things I have learned are:
(1)This is not a very efficient way to receive my local news. I have to wander from link to link to link to get what I think is necesary to keep informed. It is often more time consuming than it is worth.
My newspaper is laid out so there are 4 - 5 news items and I can scan all the headlines on the page and decide in a couple seconds whether I'm interested and move on. Probably takes me 30 minutes tops to get through section A, and I know I've checked out everything that is available.
Not so with the internet. Although the NY Times seems to have mastered the format and I read that most days.
(2) Reading the local comments, for the most part, is a waste of time. Very few people have anything worthwhile to share. Much it is being nasty to each other and about other's opinions. It amazes me how rarely there is civil discourse. I find there is more name calling, etc. on this site than the NY Times. hmmmm........

You'll come to their webpage, describing an old Japanese fishing technique, which turns out is similar to what I've been doing with the loop rod, and the old timers have been doing with the old cane poles down south. (Only thing is that the boys down south use bait on a hook, not flies)Tenkara uses a 11 to 13 foot telescopic rod and only 12 to 14 feet of line. Not anything long distance, unlike the Compleate Angler which "caste a lyne of 15 to 18 yards" makes long range work sort of a thing of the past. Of course my daughters were fishing the Kids Fishing Derby and casting only 10 to 15 feet from shore using spinning rods, bobbers and 3 to 4 feet of line under the bobber to a nightcrawler on a hook. They know that the trout run close to shore, so why cast out so far?
If you read The Fly Fisher's Craft, then you are familiar with the loop rod and long braided horse hair lines, furled leaders, and many different flies.
