Hi im going to go fishing at Almaden Lake in San Jose California and im wondering what will be a good bait for small bass? and does spoon bait work on them?
well i dont live around bait stores so i usually go to like Big 5 sporting goods for fake bait and i found purple grubs and a blue/sliver spoon and im kinda wondering do you think those are good baits?
Small Bass go for small baits. My suggestion is a small grub like the berkley gulp. Here's the hyperlink.

Use a 1/16 - 1/8 jig head & fish along the shore. I usually use a Senko, but I watch all those old-timer knocking-em dead with this set-up. If you can't find the Gulp baits, any small grub will work. Baby Bass colors work best (that's right, small Bass going for even smaller Bass). Good luck ! Hope this helps.

The jacks should be here any day, probably in late May. However, let me tell you a story about a special jack, a "Miracle Fish," caught two years ago near the shores of Daniel Island.
On June 11, 2008, I had the experience of a life time. I went out early in the morning looking for Jack Crevalle, hoping to find them on the surface and sight cast to them. Jacks are summer visitors to Charleston, migrating up the coast from Florida. Most local anglers never catch a jack here in local waters, even though they are a top notch game fish and can weigh in from 20 to over 40 pounds. A jack hooked by accident by an angler is often broken off, as they require stout tackle, good angler skill, and lots of patience during a long, hard fight.
For some reason, these jacks often congregate in the waters surrounding Daniel Island, beginning in May and lasting into October.
In 1999 I established a World Record here in Charleston catching a jack of almost 40 pounds on a fly rod a few hundred yards off of Daniel Island and won a category for jacks. Jacks became scarce during the construction of the Arthur Ravenel Bridge, with all the barges and boat traffic that that project involved, but began showing up again in some numbers in 2007 and 2008.
