My goldfish is unable to swim well due to a bend in it's tail - it cant/wont straighten it out. What can I do?
Not sure if the fish is physically injured, sick, or stressed - I'm guessing the first one, but I have little experience with fish. I've cleaned the tank, gravel, and filter, changed the water, and I've been feeding it as recommended with the food itself and other fish-owners. The fish is still fairly active, but it often pushes itself against the sides or the very bottom of the tank, and there are also times when it just floats at the top or near the bottom - always with the same side of it's body upwards. (It isn't upright.) I'm in college, so my means are pretty limited - I didn't even mean to own a pet, the fish was given to me as an unexpected gift. Can anyone help my fish?

Also: The symptoms all appeared close to the same time, about a day ago. The tank is fairly small, only several gallons, and the fish is about an inch and a quarter long. It's able to straighten it's tail to swim, but only for brief periods.
One other thing - the fish's fins don't seem to be damaged at all, it's just the bent tail, at least so far.
It's quite possible that what you are seeing it actually two things going on at once. You don't mention how long this problem has been occurring or if all of the symptoms you are seeing started at once, but my guess would be separate issues.
First, the bent tail. Watch closely as the fish swims. If he can straighten it out to swim then you can rule out physically damage or stunting. My guess is that he can't and stunting would be the cause.
The odd floating and pushing against the bottom are both symptoms of a parasite infestation. Which one would be impossible to say at this point, but any medication containing malachite green or copper sulphate will treat a very wide range of parasites. These are usually sold as ich treatments and can be had at any place that sells fish for just a few dollars.

Floating stools - how do you force them down that U-bend???
I have recently increased my fibre intake. All well and good.
But now I have "floaters". This is supposed to be a sign of stool health. Great, but they won't GO. It's so embarrassing flushing and flushing. I don't like to leave them as a present for the next person.
Do I have to choose between bowel cancer or etiquette in public loos?
I used to have that problem when I was cruising in the Caribbean and living on a high fiber diet of vegetables. The only way I found to flush them down the stool was to use enough water, so I usually had a small buck of water handy and would add it to the water in the stool as it flushed.
This may seem like a crazy question to people who haven't had it happen... but... believe me.. it's get's to be serious problem.

What can I do to save my Betta fish? He floats at the top bent over and hasn't eaten.?
My Betta fish has been floating at the top of the tank. He is on his side but also bent over facing down. Part of his body is constantly out of the water. Every once in a while I see him circle at the top of his tank. He wants to eat but he cannot lift his head to eat, even though he tries. This is heartbreaking. I am watching him die. He is in a 2 gallon tank. I have tried epsom salt baths and I tried giving him a pea (which he didn't eat). I considered taking him to a vet, but I haven't found one that sees fish. What do I do?
Your betta has SBS (swim bladder syndrome). You will need to fast him for 3 days, this will not hurt him/her because they can go without food for weeks, if they are healthy. If you cannot get him to eat peas the only other option is to try daphnia, bettas usually will not refuse live foods. Daphnia (water fleas) will acts as a laxative to get him to become regular.

One of my fish is floating on the top for the past 3 days now, can he be cured?
I have a 13 yo red belly African Phirana. I saw him three days ago laying on the bottom of the tank bent over. I though he was dead, but when I tapped on the tank he wiggled around, but still on the bottom. A day later he was floating at the top, bent over still. It's now been two more days and he is still floating and breathing. He even wiggles around some. Is this bladder disease? Should I try and treat it, or look to euthanasia? Ph is around 6, no ammonia, no signs of exterior disease.
well i dont know if there is a fish vet but test it by putting fish food right by him he might swim to get it or call a vet or just let him go to a better place if he is gone. :(

How do I make an igloo decoration for a Christmas parade float? I had the idea to use poster board bent over.?
I was gonna attach it to a cardboard base. I was gonna cover it with bubble wrap. I cant make it look right. The bend in the poster board is making it more tunnel like than like an igloo. It just isnt coming together the way I planned. HELP! Any ideas suggestions??
Know anybody with a dome tent? Add a white sheet over it & a cardboard entrance tunnel, if u can get fake cotton snow ( made from cotton batting) cover it with it.

help, fish is slightly bent, floating on its side?
my fish (one of 3) (orandas??) is still alive, but he's floating/swimming/hovering on his side, slightly bent... how can i make him better? (just moved him from a dirty tank when i noticed and so they're now in clean water)
It does sound like a swim bladder problem, that causes fish to stop swimming/floating properly, sometimes hovering around the surface and becoming bent.
As fish can live without food for a few days, I would not feed him/her just now, as this could aggravate constipation, which can affect swim bladder problems.
There are treatments that you can get from pet shops for swim bladder problems too, which fight bacteria infections. I would get a treatment, and add it, according to the instructions.
Also, check that your water filter and cleaning treatment is good, as poor water can influence swim bladder bacterial infections. I wouldn't do a massive water change at this point, as this is likely to stress your fish further, but in the medium term, do a partial water change. For now, just check your filtering and get a swim bladder treatment.
Pees can help to clear a fish from constipation, but I would wait a few days for this, whilst suspending food.
Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

South Bend unveils plan to revitalize south side neighborhood through Bowman Creek WSBT-TV
Spring means yard work for Sheila Benton, and on a sunny Thursday afternoon, she was taking full advantage of the "free help" provided by her daughters to re-sod her front lawn.
"I've lived here 11 years, and it was looking pretty bad. So, I figured--since I own the house--I wanted to improve it," she said.
But, there's another project just two doors down that needs improvement even more than her front lawn: what used to be "beautiful" Bowman Creek.
"It used to be filled with water. Now, it's just full of debris--furniture, tires, trash. Every year they have people from a couple churches go in and clean it out, but, it doesn't last long," Benton said.
It's a shame, agreed Taryn Jones and Tyrone Brelsford, enjoying some time outdoors in nearby Ravina Park.
"This is somewhere you can relax and enjoy nature," said Brelsford. "You can bring the kids here and play in the park. But, I wouldn't bring my kids down near this river."
"It worries me a lot with all the new diseases that are coming out," agreed Jones. "Our creek needs to be clean. But, every time I walk by, there's like an odor. It's too beautiful to be smelling like that."
Search ends for rafter who fell into Colorado River below KremmlingAlthough the official search has been suspended, Johnson said the Bureau of Land Management is planning to add extra floats to its normal weekend schedule in an attempt to find Kophs. He was also confident the missing rafter will eventually be located.
