The other seasons tend to sneak up on you, but summer? Well, the anticipation seems to start somewhere in mid-March and it seems like it takes forever to arrive.
With the Santa Cruz Blues Festival just two weeks away, however, it appears summer is nigh. Following are the details on all the big events from the season of maximum fun in Santa Cruz County:
Santa Cruz Blues Festival
Summer doesn't really start in the county until the guitars are plugged in at the Santa Cruz Blues Festival. The annual two-day blues blowout, now in its 18th year, comes back to Aptos Village Park with a vengeance. It offers a bit of everyone under the blues-fan umbrella.
Old-schoolers will flock to see one of the last of the great old-line Chicago bluesmen Buddy Guy, while Gen X fans will rally around the multi-talented superstar Ben Harper. There's even a treat for '60s-style rock fans, the great Eric Burdon and the Animals.
Shows run 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; gates open at 10 a.m. A free shuttle runs from Cabrillo College parking lots to the venue. Food, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be available on site.
