Mercury-News: Apple tops the Valley for valuation tuaw.com (blog)
Kind of works like that when the company delivers actual working products that solve consumer needs instead of copycat fluff (HP), vapor (Microsoft), 5 year old products ideas (zune), cheap hardware that relies on vapor OS and software (dell), or products that don't exist (MS win phone 7).
It's even funnier to see engadget post a comparison grid of Iphone 4 versus Win Mo 7, when, Win Mo 7 is still a bundle of promises for some yet to be determined future date, and yet people have actual iphone 4.0 software in their hands albeit dev accts, but it's not vapor.
Microsoft killed itself relying on vapor and empty promises.
Apple spun the computer world around about 10 years ago, and again 7 years ago when it was delivering products that actually did more than they were hyped to do. Most of the rest of the computer world is still reliant on the vaporous offerings of Microsoft.
So long as they keep doing what they've been doing, there's no stopping the growth -- they really have no competition worth mentioning in serious comparison across the board. On niche needs or specialty items, maybe. but in general purpose computing, media (consuption and creation), and most of the things 97% of the population wants to do with electronics, apple is it. period.
